ABOUT MATT HULSE

Welcome!

I'm an artist working with film, performance, word and photography.

This website is dedicated exclusively to my work as a photographer.

It focusses on a distinctive body of work that I've been developing since 2016; images shot with an old mobile phone and a $9 telescopic lens.

I'm launching with five photographs that were shot in Outer Mongolia, Hong Kong and North Korea. Together they form a collection called Sniper that took the Free Conceptual Gold Award at the FSPA Felix Schoeller Photo Award (2017).

“Hulse's photographs are extraordinary in every respect,” said Simone Klein of Magnum Photos, “they reveal the existential core of humanity in disturbingly simple pictures.”  (British Journal of Photography)

"In his own unique way, Hulse pinpoints the extreme vulnerability of globalised society." (Felix Schoeller Photo Award Jury Statement)

Captured before this eerie time of social distancing, paranoia and quarantine, these images have acquired an uncanny prescience.

For the first time, in partnership with The Printspace, high quality, strictly limited-edition A3 prints are now available, with free shipping worldwide, each with a signed certificate of authenticity.

In due course, I'll be adding newly-curated collections to this site. Please sign up for the newsletter (below) if you choose to be among the first to hear of these.

No-one was harmed during the shooting of these photographs.

Thank you for your interest and support.
